Another part of this diet that makes it incedibly healthy is that it consists of red wine, which is extremely high in antioxidants and thus greatly contributes to the healthiness of the diet. Actually the majority of European diets contain red wine as a staple of the diet, but it is also found in most Mediterranean diets and thus is also included largely in the Mediterranean diet plan. Coupling the healthiness of the red wine with the already healthy food makes this diet an excellent one for anyone to try.

A Mediterranean style diet is one that is rich in both antioxidants and beneficial monounsaturated fats. It can be the centerpiece of a heart healthy way of life. Consumption of red wine and olive oil are hallmarks of this diet style which is common in southern Italy and Greece. Beyond that, there is no typical Mediterranean diet menu. A Mediterranean diet plan draws from a rich selection of breads, cereals, fish, fruits, and vegetables. The great variety of food choices make the Mediterranean plan appealing and beneficial to almost anyone.
